We all woke this morning to the sad news that the world had lost a great rider, a true champion and an all round great bloke.
Nicky Hayden passed away over night (Australian time) from the injuries he received in a crash while training on his bicycle near the seaside resort of Rimini in Italy 5 days ago.
Much is being said right now about Nicky – news and tributes are flooding the internet – and here at Motorcycle Life we would be kidding ourselves if we felt we could add anything worthwhile to that news stream.
But we do want to acknowledge the life of the champion that was Nicky Hayden, and hope that the memory of this fine man lives on.
It is truly a sad day in the motorcycle world, and our heart felt condolences go out to his family, fiancée, friends, racing colleagues and team.
It is ironic that a man who diced with death and took such huge risks on a race track left this world after a pushbike crash.
Our thoughts are with you all.
