Stage 3 took the competitors from San Miguel de Tucuman and into the mountains of Argentina on route to San Salvador de Jujuy.
Many competitors, including Australian rider Toby Price, had difficulties with navigation creating plenty of confusion and loss of time, and some amusing video captured from the helicopters.
With competitors now racing at heights of up to 5,000 metres above sea level, some are dealing with altitude sickness as well.
