Dakar 2022: How to stay up to date with all the latest news from the 2022 Dakar Rally

Struggling to keep up to date with all the latest news from the Dakar Rally? Want to know how your favourite competitor is tracking?

With so many competitors, so much activity and so many different sources of information, it’s hard to know where to look for rapid updates. It’s about as challenging at times as trying to find that elusive waypoint in the desert!

So we thought we’d throw together a quick guide of our favourite (and trusted) sources to help.

Official Dakar websitehttps://www.dakar.com/en

The official source of all things Dakar is, of course, the official website. No surprise there, but once you’ve hit the site your own personal navigation journey begins – and there’s the surprise! Hidden in the navigation are the checkpoints for information on the stages, latest news, rankings, live timing and competitor tracking.

And if you click into the competitors area you’ll find an abundance of background information on the Dakar, access to photos and videos and passwords for the Sportity app (more on that later).

Official Dakar App

If you prefer your information supplied in a more mobile form, then the Dakar 2022 app is for you.

Download for free from the Apple App Store and Google Play, and then follow the race live, watch highlights, get the latest news and rankings, and follow your favourite competitors.

Sportity

Sportity is the only official communication channel used throughout the rally, and the app is free on Android and iOS.

There are different information channels for bikes, cars/trucks and for the Dakar Classic competitors. And here’s an inside secret – it’s where we get most of our ‘behind the scenes” information from!!

Speedcafe.comhttps://www.speedcafe.com

If it’s not the largest independent motorsport website in the world, it probably runs very close. Daily Dakar updates from their team of journalists will keep you in tune. Being Australian based you can expect a particular interest in how the Aussie guys and girl are going, and especially Albury rider Andrew Houlihan who publishes a Daily Diary entry from Saudi Arabia.

Andrew Houlihan – The Road To Dakar 2022

Speaking of Andrew Houlihan, there’s several updates each day on his progress both on his personal website (roadtodakar.com.au) – and his Facebook page. Andrew rides for the Nomadas Adventure Coca-Cola KTM team and is one of the gutsiest riders and nicest guys you will ever meet. He’s on his second run at the Dakar, having finished 50th last year after riding for 9 days with a broken wrist!

Toby Price

You couldn’t run anything on the Dakar without mentioning this Aussie legend. Multiple updates each day come through on his Facebook page(s), and the official Red Bull KTM team page.
