Honda is trying to break Harley-Davidson’s stranglehold on the 500cc cruiser market with the new Honda CMX 500 Rebel.
Arriving in Australia late in April with the introductory price of just $8,999 ride away, Honda has priced the new model almost $2,000 under that of the top selling Harley-Davidson Street 500.
It also generates more power and torque than the Harley-Davidson, and is around 30kg lighter.
The Honda CMX 500 Rebel is a simple and raw machine, exercising a minimalist design where every detail matters.
To keep it standard or to customise until your hearts content – the scope is only limited to your imagination.
The CMX is LAMs friendly and powered by a 471cc parallel twin-cylinder engine with a smooth, lineal power delivery.
Manoeuvrability at low speeds is made easy by its low seat height and slim design.

A relaxed and neutral riding position allows gently outstretched arms and mid-mounted footpegs makes for a comfortable ride.
The bike is also equipped with a removable pillion seat as standard.
Rolling on wider tyres, giving it that low and lean ‘bobber’ silhouette – crowned by the steeply raked 11.2L fuel tank and wide handlebars – the rider is seated firmly ‘in’ the machine.
From every angle of this machine it is ready to express an off-beat individuality.
When creating this ultimate street bobber the engine sound could not be overlooked, even at idle.
The internal muffler structure has been thoroughly tuned to emphasise the pulse and feel of the engine.
In Australia the CMX will be available in Matte Armoured Silver Metallic, Victory Red and Graphite Black, the CMX is a fresh reference to timeless motorcycle styling.
