A fundraiser has been organised on the Gold Coast this coming weekend to support injured motorcycle stunt rider Matt Mingay.
Matt was seriously injured in a Stadium Super Truck crash in Detroit on June 4.
He received horrific facial injuries when his truck rolled and struck a barrier, ripping the roof off the truck.
Matt underwent five hours of surgery to rebuild the lower half of his face which included inserting a prosthetic jaw and chin.
He also suffered some bleeding and bruising of the brain and fractured his T1 vertebra.
Matt is now back home on the Gold Coast recovering.
Slideways Go Karting World in Pimpama, near Dreamworld on the Gold Coast, is running a fund raiser for Matt this Sunday, July 17.
All funds raised from go-kart sessions between 9:00am and 1:00pm will go to the Go Fund Me campaign set up to help cover some of Matt’s medical bills.
Special guests already confirmed for the event include V8 Supercar driver Tim Slade, V8 Utes stars Ryal Harris and Ryan Hansford, and former Hi-5 star and now Sea FM breakfast announcer Charli Robinson.
Members of the public will be able to bid in a silent auction for the chance to drive alongside a star of their choice in a feature relay kart race, V8 Supercar and drift car rides will also be auctioned off and there will be displays and demonstrations of various race cars, karts and motorcycles.
Matt Mingay has earned a reputation as Australia’s No. 1 stunt rider and drifter and has represented Hot Wheels, GoPro and Harley-Davidson at events around the world.
“I’m so overwhelmed by the massive level of support my fans and motorsport family have shown since my accident; your encouragement and good vibes is what pushes me to get out of hospital and back to 110 per cent,” said Mingay.
“I also want to thank my good mates at Go Karting World for really getting behind me and showing their support.”
The event will be held at Slideways Go Karting World at 232 Old Pacific Highway in Pimpama.
More information, as well as up-to-date lists of star guests and prizes, can be found at the Slideways Go Karting World website.
