After the success of the first 3 SMART Rider courses on the Gold Coast, 9 more courses are being locked in for April, May and June.
Lead Instructor for the SMART Rider Program, Mike Roberts, said he is very pleased with the results already seen in the course participants.
“Towards the end of the day I like to sit at the back of the group and watch how everyone is riding”, Mike said, “and when you see a group of riders taking corners with better and safer lines it’s very satisfying for us instructors because we know we’ve made a big difference to their riding.”
The SMART Rider course was created to pass on real-world skills and knowledge to riders who want to improve their riding, be safer on the roads and get more enjoyment from motorcycling.
Course Co-Ordinator Steve McDowall says the course is designed to improve a rider’s skills no matter how much experience they already have.
“We’ve had a brand new rider who only picked up his bike three days before the course right through to guys who have been riding for 30 to 40 years!”
“Typically we’re seeing riders who want to improve their cornering, understand how to deal with traffic and other issues on the road and many who, despite loving being on bikes, just get too many frights when they’re riding and want to learn how to stop that happening so they can enjoy they’re riding more.”
The SMART Rider program is a full day course and includes a mentored road ride through the Gold Coast hinterland.
The course costs just $95 and is supported by funding from the Queensland Government Community Road Safety Grants.
Upcoming dates are 22nd & 23rd April, 6th, 7th, 20th & 21st May and 3 more dates in June are just being confirmed.
