An impressive 7.7% growth in sales in the first three months of 2016 has given BMW Motorrad the best start to a year on record.
BMW Motorrad delivered 33,788 motorcycles and maxi scooters worldwide in the first quarter of 2016, 2,418 units more than the same period last year.
Heiner Faust, BMW Motorrad Head of Sales and Marketing was quoted as saying that “BMW Motorrad has started into the new 2016 motorcycle season with the best first quarterly sales of all time. We are expecting a very positive business performance this year, too.”
Strong growth was recorded in both Europe and Asia, and while Germany still remains the strongest single market, sales in Spain grew by 39.2%.
China is also a booming market for the German brand. Although sales numbers are lower than other markets, sales have increased by 74.4%.
The R 1200 GS travel enduro and its sister model, the R 1200 GS Adventure are currently the strongest sellers, but sales of the long running F Series, the F 700 GS and F 800 GS, also exceeded last year’s sales overall.
In the first three months already more than 11,391 flat-twin GS motorcycles have been delivered to customers worldwide.
The GS models continue to prove their resilience in tough conditions as well.
The 114 motorcycles that entered this year’s BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy covered a total distance of 150,000 km in temperatures far exceeding 30° C and very humid conditions with no technical failures.
A total of 19 teams from 25 countries took part in the seven day trek covering more than 1,300 km through the forests, jungles and mountains of Northern Thailand.
