Sad news has come out of the Losail International Circuit, where the opening round of the 2016 MotoGP championship is under way.
Tunisian rider Taoufik Gattouchi has died from injuries received in a multi bike crash during the Losail 600 Cup support race.
The incident happened at turn three on the 10th lap of the 15 lap race.
A statement posted on the official MotoGP website says that the race was immediately red flagged and medical teams provided trackside medical attention to the 49-year-old rider.
Mr Gattouchi was transported by air ambulance to the Hamad Hospital in Doha where resuscitation continued. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.
