Yamaha TT-R50E a Sales Smash

Little Yamaha TT-R50E takes top spot as 50cc market booms.

For many years we’ve seen a battle for supremacy in the sales war between two motorcycles – the Honda CT110 Postie bike and in recent years the Kawasaki Ninja 300.

The two models have traded places regularly, largely dependent on the purchasing power of Australia Post, and each quarter it has been interesting to see which model can claim the title of “Australia’s Top Selling Motorcycle”.

But the final sales figures for 2015 have revealed a new winner – Yamaha’s tiny TT-R50.

Considered to be in the “Fun bike” (or as we used to call it the “minibike”) category, the 50cc off roader is ideal for children learning to ride.

It seems this market is now one of the strongest in the country, with both Yamaha’s TT-R50E and the Honda CRF50F both outselling the Honda CT110X in 2015.

Yet another 50cc – the Yamaha PW50 – took fourth spot in overall sales as well!

These sales figures point to a huge increase in this market segment, which in the coming years should translate to increasing sales of larger bikes as the little riders grow up.

Sales of the Kawasaki Ninja 300 and Honda CT110X were significantly lower as well, which has also helped the 50cc bikes move up the sales tally.
